An optimization approach to finding roots of systems of nonlinear equations
We describe and test an approach to finding roots of systems of nonlinear equations. This approach is based on a reduction to an auxiliary optimization problem. In spite of the fact that the reduced problem is, in general, a nonconvex optimization problem, we use only local search techniques and provide conditions for the obtained stationary point to be a root of the initial system of nonlinear equations.
