Thispaperpresentstheresultsofanexperimentalstudyofboilingofsubstantiallysubcooledliquidini-tiatedbyitslocalheatingthroughtheconcentratedlaserradiationtransmittedtotheworkingvolumeviaathinopticalfiber.Westudyindetailtheevolutionofavapor-gasbubbleformednearthesurfaceofanopticalfibertip.Asthebubblecollapses,aliquidsealisformed,whichleadstogenerationofahotsubmergedjetdirectedfromthefibertipintotheliquid.Weattempttoexplainthecumulativenatureofthisjetandprovideestimatesofitsvelocitythatappeartobeingoodagreementwiththeexperiment.
