The paper addresses the topical issue of Supergrid formation in Asia with participation of Russia. Various scenarios for the Supergrid formation were developed. optimization studies of the scenarios for the interconnection between Russian Unified power system and potential Asian Supergrid have been done. The studies rely on the model for optimization of power systems expansion and operation developed with participation of the authors. The findings demonstrate various interconnection benefits, including savings of capacity, fuel cost, etc. They also reveal possible ways for the interconnection of Russian Unified power system with Asian Supergrid. The main parameters of the potential Supergrid, including its interconnection with Russia are outlined. © 2019 IEEE.
