The resilience of energy systems has become one of the key factors ensuring the reliability and security of energy supplies in the world. While Russia possesses large oil and natural gas reserves together with a large energy industry, it is still crucial for the Russian energy system to be able to adapt to new conditions and occurring stressful events to continue its functioning. This article surveys the resilience metrics, which cannot be properly done without taking into consideration that the world energy system is in the process of transition to a new state, characterized by a shift in dominant types of energy sources and fundamental changes, associated with energy conversion technologies. The transition to cleaner and more flexible energy systems leads to significant shifts not only in used technologies, but also in a set of factors, determining efficiency and resilience of energy systems. In order to assess resilience of the Russian energy system in new conditions it is necessary to identify how these factors change in the process of transition and to revise methods of resilience evaluation. © 2018 IEEE.
