The Council on Theses defense has been working at the Institute since 1977. The theses are defended in three specialities:

• Mathematical modeling, numerical methods and software packages. 
  
• Energy systems and complexes.
  
• Electric power plants and systems.
  

In total 216 theses have been defended at the Council.

Post graduate courses are offered in 7 specialties: 

• Thermal physics and theoretical heat engineering;
  
• Mathematical modeling, numerical methods and software packages;
  
• Energy systems and complexes;
  
• Electric power plants and systems;
  
• Economy and its management;
  
• Mathematical methods and tools for the economy;
  
• Hydrology of land, water resources, hydrochemistry.
