The main results obtained from experimental works aimed at revealing and studying physical constraints imposed on the controllability of processes through which solid fuel is subjected to thermochemical conversion in a bed are presented. It is shown that the energy efficiency of these processes is determined by their proximity to adiabatic conditions.
