Improving Cybersecurity of Digital Microgrid Relay Protection Systems Based on Information Verification Methods
In the context of increasing reliance of microgrids (MGs) with distributed energy resources (DER) on information technologies, their vulnerability to cyber-attacks is growing. This necessitates the development of more robust strategies for protecting digital systems. The article provides a detailed analysis of potential threats that could compromise the functionality of digital relay protection systems in MGs. An innovative data validation method is introduced, using unsupervised learning techniques such as Isolation Forest and knearest neighbors, effectively identifying and correcting measurement errors to protect systems from false alarms and failures. It is noted that enhancing these mechanisms strengthens cybersecurity and ensures the stable operation of modern relay protection devices, maintaining their reliability and security in the face of threats within MGs. © 2025 IEEE.
