The XIII International Workshop “Critical Infrastructures in the Digital World” (IWCI-2026) is held on March 12–18, 2026

March 27, 2026

The event was co-organized by the Melentiev Energy Systems Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ESI SB RAS) and the Institute of Information Technology and Cybersecurity. The Program Committee was co-chaired by V. A. Stennikov, Academician, D. Sc. in Engineering, and L. V. Massel, Professor, D. Sc. in Engineering. The working languages of the event were English and Russian.

Held in Bolshoye Goloustnoye, the workshop gathered 52 participants (including co-authors) and featured 52 presentations across five sessions (primarily in English) and roundtables. These comprised 43 in person and 9 online talks, of which 18 were made by young scientists. On March 11, a student session titled “Modern Information Technologies” took place at Irkutsk National Research Technical University under the auspices of the workshop.

Furthermore, one D. Sc. (the Matrosov Institute for System Dynamics and Control Theory of the SB RAS) and three Ph. D. (ESI SB RAS) dissertations were discussed.

The sessions featured active discussions on the development of knowledge ecosystems in the energy industry and digital platforms as their technological foundation. Other key topics included digital twins, applications of artificial intelligence systems, machine learning methods, and mathematical modeling, as well as research in the energy industry and ecology.

The workshop included two roundtables:

·       Priority Directions and Key Trends in Artificial Intelligence Technologies (Moderator: L. V. Massel, D. Sc. in Engineering, ESI SB RAS);

·       Digital Platform for Situational Awareness in Sustainable Energy (Moderator: A. G. Massel, Ph. D. in Engineering, ESI SB RAS).

The event brought together representatives from five Russian cities (Irkutsk, Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, and Khanty-Mansiysk) and 11 scientific organizations and universities. Notably, one of the sessions included presentations by international Ph. D. students from Mongolia, Cameroon (Irkutsk State Agrarian University), and Vietnam (Irkutsk National Research Technical University).

The online sessions featured contributions from researchers from the Federal Research Center “Computer Science and Control” of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow): N. P. Tuchkova, Ph. D. in Physics and Mathematics, and O. M. Ataeva, Ph. D. in Engineering. The workshop also attracted Ph. D. students from Tyumen State University (Tyumen), Yugra State University (Khanty-Mansiysk), Baikal State University (Irkutsk), and ESI SB RAS (Irkutsk).

The participants expressed their approval of the topics and format of the workshop, emphasizing its significance and value, particularly for young scientists. Workshop attendees recommended holding the international workshop on a regular basis.
