Updating of electric networks for raising or limiting the voltage level, for increasing the transmission capacity and for some other purposes is accomplished by installing FACTS (Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System) devices. Installation of FACTS devices in the energy company's networks enhances the modes of their operation. Modern methods of FACTS modeling in the task of electric power system (EPS) state estimation vividly prove that. Development of Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS) evidences the transition of EPS to a Smart Grid. Phasor measurement units (PMU) are used in different problems of on-line control primarily for monitoring the EPS modes, which allows more accurate modeling of processes occurring in the energy systems when solving the basic control problems. The paper presents a model of High Voltage Direct Сurrent (HVDС) device on voltage converters that was developed in Melentiev Energy Systems Institute (further MESI SB RAS). The model was included into an equivalent circuit for solving the state estimation problem. To ensure the HVDC model observability the substation with HVDC is proposed to be equipped with PMUs. Integration of PMUs ensures correctness of HVDC link operation monitoring. © Technical University of Košice 2019.
