About LMPS Conference
Last decades electric power industry is being liberalized and restructured in many countries.
This process forces governments and science to learn what market structures are the most efficient and
how regulation methods influence the industry and welfare of the people. Consumers are interested in
optimizing their activity in a new environment and investors tend to accurately forecast the prospects
of companies in electric power industry and related industries. The growing interest in this field
generates necessity to exchange ideas and research results.
The first international conference "Liberalization and Modernization of Power Systems: Operation and
Control Problems" was held in August 14, 2000. There were more than 50 attendees from Russia, Germany,
Switzerland, Poland, Slovenia and China, 28 papers on electricity market deregulation and modeling were
presented. The second conference “Liberalization and Modernization of Power Systems: Congestion
Management Problems” was held in August 11-14 2003. About 40 participants from Russia, Germany, Spain,
Switzerland, France and Great Britain both from research centers and from the industry presented 35 papers
dedicated mainly to congestion management in a market environment. The third conference “Liberalization
and Modernization of Power Systems: Risk Assessment and Optimization for Asset Management” was held in
August 14-18, 2006. About 40 attendees from 7 countries presented 27 papers. The fourth conference
“Liberalization and Modernization of Power Systems: Coordinated Monitoring and Control towards Smart Grids”
was held in July 13-17, 2009. About 60 attendees from 12 countries presented 45 papers.
