Research cooperation agreement with the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ)

Energy Systems Institute SB RAS and Institute of Energy Economics, Japan signed a cooperation agreement

On March 28 2014 in Tokyo Energy Systems Institute SB RAS and Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (Tokyo) signed a cooperation agreement for the implementation of joint research projects. On behalf of Energy Systems Institute SB RAS the agreement was signed by the Director of the Institute, corresponding member of RAS Nikolai Voropai, and on behalf of Institute of Energy Economics, Japan – by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO Masakazu Toyoda.

The agreement implies that for the period of 2014-2016 Energy Systems Institute SB RAS and Institute of Energy Economy of Japan will collaborate to strengthen energy cooperation between the Russian Federation and Japan by conducting joint research and arranging scientific conferences and workshops.
The agreement provides for the joint participation of research organizations in the development and implementation of mechanisms to undertake Russia-Japan energy projects such as the construction of an energy bridge between Russia and Japan and the creation of an international gas transportation system in Northeast Asia. The two sides agreed to pay special attention to the projects for energy infrastructure development and energy efficiency improvement in the regions of East Siberia and the Far East.

Since its establishment in June 1966, Institute of Energy Economics of Japan has been the leading state research energy institute under the Government of Japan. The Institute takes an active part in the implementation of the projects for bilateral and multilateral energy cooperation in Northeast Asia and offers solutions for sustainable development of the world’s energy.
